LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Drivers have only been paying to park at the Lynchburg Community Market for a few weeks, but rates are already being dropped.
The Lynchburg Parking Authority voted this week to extend free parking at the community market from 30 minutes to one hour. Rates for the second hour will drop from a dollar to 50 cents.
Since parking meters were installed at the market lot last month, business owners have complained about a drop in sales.
The meters are part of a pilot program to see if paid parking can be viable in the downtown area.
