Those pesky coin meters in downtown St. Pete are going away

Pretty soon you won’t have to go digging around for loose change when you want to park in downtown St. Pete.
Beginning early July, 400 solar-powered Smart Meters will be installed along two busy corridors in downtown St. Petersburg along Beach Drive and Central Avenue.

Customers will have the option to park and swipe a credit card, in addition to the current methods of paying with coins or the ParkMobile app. The smart meters will collect information and provide the city with new ways to generate reports and analyze usage information.

City officials decided to go with the single-space credit card meters over multi-space meters in large part so that no new signs have to be installed and customers won’t have to remember a space number or return to their vehicle to place a receipt on their dashboard.
